Social Advertising Numbers
Facebook advertising has always sort of taken a back seat to other online advertising techniques. However, with Facebook’s struggle to show the sort of profits shareholders are expecting, I think they have finally hit a breakthrough. Here are some aspects that might make you take a second glance.
Social Impressions
Most small business accounts are lucky to have an eclectic enough keyword strategy to hit up to 100,000 impressions per month. On Facebook, that’s almost too easy.
Click-through Rates on Social Media
Click through rates have always been the struggle particularly for side bar ads on Facebook. However, with more sponsored stories running through the newsfeed, click through rates are greatly increasing! More and more promising numbers are coming out!
Newsfeed Performance
There are three main aspects of Facebook’s newsfeed ads that make them perform so much better than other conventional online advertising techniques.
- Real Estate: The take up a lot of space on your newsfeed. Here they can include a comment (up to 500 words, the rest is truncated), a picture or a link preview, and a call-to-action that can lead directly to your site!
- Hashtags: Now companies can join a conversation, like on other social media, by using a common hashtag. This is a great marketing technique that is only beginning to be discovered! But we all know it works great on Instagram and on Twitter.
- It doesn’t look like an ad. This is the biggest benefit to Facebook newseed advertisers. It looks like a relevant conversation through mutual friends on your newsfeed. Then you see the tiny grey writing at the bottom indicating that it is in fact a sponsored ad. Most times this won’t even catch your eye so you’ll read and absorb the message before it gets through! This is the beauty of social media, it’s not about pushing a product or about profits, it’s about building a community around your brand’s image. There’s no way better to do that than to invite someone into a conversation.
Cost
From our experience running Adword campaigns and Facebook ad campaigns for clients, our main goal is to drive traffic to your site without putting you in the negative. We’ve found that social media advertising is about 2-3 times cheaper than other advertising techniques. However this doesn’t mean we should abandon everything and focus all marketing efforts on social media, it really depends on the business and the audience. A mix of a few methods is definitely the best. However, there are both pros and cons to each of these processes. Look carefully to decide what is best for your business. Every business is different and you really have to focus on what works for you! Overwhelmed by all of the options?
